Considering the brick of a device we previously assumed would grab the role of being Vista's MCE remote didn't exactly fit the shiny, smooth look that's (apparently) taking coders so long to master, it's not too surprising that it probably, well, won't. While the previous rendition may have very well been some early prototype, we've now got good reason to believe that a sexier, more curvaceous replacement may take its place. Delving through the latest Windows Vista Product Guide manual discloses a svelte new remote with a much more fitting design, including the oh-so-crucial (DVR) playback buttons at the top, directional pads in the center, and your typical number pad layout taking up the lower half. There's also a row of four "shortcut" buttons that will presumably trigger just the right components to make the magic happen. Per usual with devices that haven't even neared mass production (nor tout actual confirmation of their...

We've seen lots of wristwear in our day, ranging from PDA watches to GPS watches, to more recent Bluetooth watches, and the gadget that we always use to get any party going: the drum machine watch. Sadly, though, none of these watches can do what this Sanko MP4 watch can: play your MPEG-4 videos, rock out to MP3 or WMA files and display track info on its 1.5-inch screen (not that there aren't a bevy of other audio-playing watches). The 1GB version will set you back ¥14,800 ($128) or ¥18,800 ($162) for the 2GB version. We're not exactly sure how practical it is to plug your headphones into your wristwatch while you're out for your morning stroll, but hey, we've see wackier timewear before.

Runco has announced details about not one, not three, but six new plasma models to be released before the end of November and ready for walls in time for Christmas. The SP-42, SP-50, and SP-60 all fall into Runco's CinemaWall line, and the SP-42HD, SP-50HD, and SP-60HD are in the PlasmaWall product range. Plasma sizes include two each of 42-, 50-, and 60-inch models, all with the usual HDMI and audio/video inputs, 1000:1 contrast ratio, Vivix II image processing technology, and ISF certification for both day and night settings. The 42-inch models sport 1024 x 768-pixel resolution, with the larger two sizes having 1365 x 768 pixels. No word on the pricing, but we expect it to be within range of the other CinemaWall and PlasmaWall line of Runco displays.

While this one came oh-so-close to being filed under the ongoing PS3 crime spree chronicles, the inability to pinpoint the PlayStation unit crooks nabbed as one of the highly-coveted "3" models forced us to clump this in with the smorgasbord of other (general) utterly dumb criminal acts. While it wouldn't surprise us to find that the armed burglars who ransacked a Cincinnati home were indeed after the mighty lucrative PS3, their bafflingly high level of stupidity leaves us to wonder if it wasn't a PlayStation 2 (or worse, a PSOne). The robbers reportedly bum rushed the house with their eyes on the prize, tied up the victims with a "PlayStation power cord," bolted out while laughing evilly, and then realized they needed the very cable they left behind. Similar to the crook who jacked a TV but returned for the remote, these guys apparently forgot the keys to pulling off an even marginally successful heist, but thankfully didn't harm the poor family they intruded u...

Just when we thought we'd seen it all, ROLLERtoaster comes onto the scene and makes everybody look bad. Sure, it's just a concept for now, but don't say we didn't warn you when this thing takes the world by storm and revolutionizes the entire toast industry forever. Designed by Jaren Goh of Singapore, and winner of the 2006 Red Dot Award, the ROLLERtoaster is pretty self explanatory: stick bread in one side, and watched it get rolled into toast by the compact little unit. We're not so sure how well this is guarded from little probing fingers, or the exact mechanism for rolling the toast through, but do details like that really matter when faced with such exquisite design beauty? We didn't think so.

This holiday season isn't just about the game consoles, it's about the HDTVs you're hooking them up to (assuming you're lucky enough to have the two newest). Samsung's new 46-inch HL-S4676S SlimDLP came in today, looking to take a swipe at all those flat-panel displays everybody's so hot for. How slim is SlimDLP? It was 11.5-inches thick, compared to the 14.5-inches of our "full-size" 56-inch LED DLP set (shown after the break). Ok, so that's not too slim, but for the price (under $1,500) you are getting a pretty decent sized screen with good color representation that won't pinch you too hard in the pocketbook. Loads of high res shots after the break!Continue reading Samsung HL-S4676S SlimDLP hands-on

Why go through the hassle (and lines of fire) to get your palms on a shiny next generation system when game developers are still popping out fresh hits for your Sega Dreamcast? You heard right, Sega's last flailing attempt in the console market still has a dream burning somewhere in Japan, as recent reports claim that "Warashi will be porting its arcade shooter Trigger Heart Exelica to the system." The game itself is a "side scrolling shooter" that utilizes a "three button system" (Genesis, anyone?) to take out your enemies. So if you're still hanging on to that (previously) antiquated console, and you don't mind games coming out some eight years after its release, then dust off the Shenmue and let it hold you over 'til the next big (and final -- right?) title lands on February 22, 2007.

For as much feature slashing and resulting public outcry involved in getting this thing out the door for a "reasonable price," it sure didn't amount to much: Art Lebedev just announce its uber-hyped Optimus 103 keyboard will debut in May of 2007 for $1,200. That's twelve hundies, for those keeping track at home, ten times the current price of the Optimus mini three 1.5. Sure, nobody expected this thing to be cheap, but $1,200 might be asking a bit much. Luckily, prices will be dropping to a "mere" sub-grand in September of 2007, and at that rate we'll be able to afford one of these things right around the time that thought-based typing becomes the input method of choice. Well, at least our dreams of keyboard heaven were fun while they lasted. If you're just crazy enough to try it, you can pre-order the keyboard on December 12th.

Toshiba's rolling out a refresh to a couple of its Satellite laptops, bumping up the specs in its K16, K11, and J61 models and offering a variety of configurations in each. The K16 (not so subtly identified above) and the K11 are similar in appearance, each with 15.4-inch WXGA displays, but quite a bit different on the inside, with the K16 packing either T7200 or T5500 Core 2 Duo processors, 40GB hard drives, up to 2GB of RAM (512MB standard), and integrated WiFi with the higher-end config -- although for some reason that's dropped if you opt for the less powerful processor. The K11, on the other hand, takes things down to the Celeron level, with a 1.73 GHz M 430 processor, Radeon Xpress 200M graphics, 512MB RAM, a 40GB hard drive, and a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive. On the squarer side of things, the J61 (check it after the break) offers a non widescreen 15-inch display, with either XGA or SXGA+ resolutions depending on the configuration, along with your choice...
