We've watched Greenhouse's wee Kana grow up from its early Kana-SD stages and evolve into the entirely more mature Kana D, and now the next logical growth spurt is in order as the device makes the leap to include a voice recorder and FM transmitting capabilities. The Kana GT packs the same 1GB of internal memory that was seen in its predecessor, still lasts just seven hours on a full charge, handles MP3 and WMA files, and connects to your PC via USB 2.0. This iteration, however, also includes an OLED display, up to 140 hours of voice recording potential, a built-in FM tuner and FM transmitter, a dedicated antenna, and even a car cigarette USB charger to keep the music flowin' on lengthy road trips. The newest Kana will come in black, red, and silver motifs, and should land in mid-June for an estimated ¥7,980 ($66).

It's been awhile since we've seen a new Philips GoGear device 'round here. Now this, the 1GB SA6015 and 2GB SA6025 flash-based players. Both pack a 65k color, 320 x 240 pixel 2.2-inch LCD, FM tuner, voice recorder, and support for MP3, DRM'd WMA, and up to 4-hours of WMV video playback per charge. Interestingly, they've ditched the touch controls from their more recent DAPs in favor of a new "SuperScroll" controller. My, how 20th century of you Philips. Both are available now from the usual retail outlets where the 2GB model will demand about $110.

Roger Angel's idea to launch a 100-meter liquid mirror telescope on the moon is far from the only mammoth-sized dream that could be headed into space, and if the feasibility study shows enough promise, it just might happen. The University of Arizona astronomer mentioned that the idea of putting an "enormous liquid-mirror telescope on the moon that could be hundreds of times more sensitive than the Hubble Space Telescope" had been around awhile, but apparently it's finally getting the attention it deserves. If constructed, it would easily be the largest ever built, and would reportedly allow scientists to "study the oldest and most distant objects in the universe, including the very first stars." The project is being investigated on behalf of NASA's Institute for Advanced Concepts, and while these type devices are "relatively cheap" to build, it should be noted that it's being compared (at least financially) to the $4.5 billion James Webb Space Tel...

Meizu certainly knows a good design when they see it. Now they're taking that resizing magic which slimmed down the M6se to their M3 Music Card digital media player. The M3se packs a lighter duty 500mAh battery (down from 700mAh) in order to squeeze into its shorter 76-mm tall (down from 81-mm) chassis which features a new brushed-metal backside. They've also done away with that quirky offset control for skipping tracks while widening the control strip down the center. All these changes result in a cleaner look for Meizu's rapidly evolving product portfolio.

Oh my, the 5-0 won't like this one bit. Meet The Slurpr, a WiFi access point which aggregates up to six "available" (read: unprotected) 54Mbps WiFi channels into one bigazz, "free" connection. It's the latest invention by Dutch hacker, Mark Hoekstra and his new sidekick (of is it the other way around?), Boris. Of course, use of the Slurpr in its current incarnation will likely violate wardriving laws in at least few countries. So the inclusion of Mark's next feature -- 64/128-bit WEP-cracking -- could well land you in a Turkish prison. Still interested, Billy? Then head on over to Mark's site where you can pre-order the €999 / $1,347 box today.

If you're thinking of picking up one Sony's new AVCHD high-definition camcorders then you'll want to give the VRD-MC5 accessory a peep. The burner features PC-less, one-touch HD-quality dubbing when connected to over USB to your new HDR-SR5, HDR-SR7, HDR-SR8, and HDR-CX7 Handycam. The unit packs a 2.5-inch LCD, Firewire and S-Video inputs, and plenty of memory slots including SDHC/SD, xD, and compact flash in addition to Sony's proprietary formats. It'll even write to those wee 8cm DVDs just like Sony's DVD camcorders. Sorry, no Blu-ray Discs here, and it won't run from battery. Available August 10th for an estimated ¥30,000 or about $247.

Calling all cars, calling all cars... be on the look out for the SMS M500 GSM Watchfone. That's right, the first shipments of the M300 followup are said to be leaving Hong Kong as of tomorrow, May 30th. Now we can all get a little Dick Tracy with "the world's smallest mobile phone" -- or so says SMS Technology Australia. Unlike Dick's 2-way Wrist Radio which emerged in 1949, this pup goes quad-band GSM while packing a 1.5-inch touchscreen with itty bitty, built-in stylus; Bluetooth 2.0; and all the 120 x 160 pixel MP4 video (or MP3/AAC audio) you can pack into its 128MB of storage. The watch weights just 60-grams and should hold-up to about 200 minutes of talk or 80 hours standby before needing a USB recharge. Now if someone could just hook us up with a jetpack we can get to living in the future promised to us by Uncle Walt (no, the other one) in those free lovin' 70s.

Sure, you can roll old school with a Waterford chandelier slung from the ceiling. Better yet, why not fantasize about ancient mathematical screws with the help of this, the "Archimedes Dream" from designer Makoto Tojiki. The glowing ribbon of pale blue (or pink) light is constructed from our favorite kind of LEDs -- OLEDs. Better yet, if you look closely, you'll find an approximation of Archimedes' constant, Pi, gently swirling methodically into exhaustion. Eureka!

We know it's probably a big deal for AMD and all, but we just weren't all that shocked to find out that Toshiba will shortly follow in Dell's wake and sell AMD-based laptops in the US and Europe. We really don't see much reason for these guys to hold out at this point -- which is probably why they're not anymore. Anywho, it's estimated a comparably equipped AMD machine will in some cases sell for over $80 less than Intel based machines, so you penny-pinching deal freaks might want to hang on before shelling out for that next Satellite.
