You lucky PSP-ownin' Brits. BT has developed custom VoIP software for use with PSPs fitted with new Go!Cams (pictured to the right). Using the Go!Cam's mic and camera, PSP punters will initially be able to make voice and video calls to other PSP users and some BT phones across the UK. Eventually, BT will distribute the software globally and allow users to calls PCs, fixed line phones and mobiles from any WiFi hotspot. The new service takes advantage of BT's 21 century network (21CN) designed specifically for IP technologies. Now the bad news: while the Go!Cams are scheduled for release on 25 May in the UK, BT won't be providing any additional detail on the PSP VoIP service until sometime in August. Oh BT you saucy minx you.

Considering all the legal fisticuffs thrown over the "iPhone" trademark, e-blue is certainly taking their chances with this, the -- you guessed it -- i-phone. Seriously, that's the best they could do? Better yet Cisco fans (and general counsel), it's a VoIP phone just like Cisco's. We won't bother going into all the Skype-compatible specs until Cisco legal has had their fun. Really, what's the point?

If you didn't see this one coming, we'll just assume the glaring sun had you blinded, as the Sunshine State has apparently had quite enough of the e-voting woes within its borders. Florida Governor Charlie Crist signed into law a bill "requiring that all voting districts in the state replace most touchscreen electronic voting machines with optical scan machines." From day one, the state has been plagued with one mishap after another, and while some touch-screen systems will be maintained for "handicapped voters that require its features to vote unaided," the vast majority of the Direct Recording Electronic (DRE) machines will be nixed in favor of a less hackable flavor. Flinging one last blow of frustration at the e-voting curse, Crist went so far as to suggest that ditching them would allow Floridians to "leave the polling place knowing that their vote had been counted and recorded and can be verified." Of course, we're sure the tax-paying citize...

It wasn't too long ago that next-generation taxis were being demoed at the NY International Automobile Show, but unless those roadsters sport gas sipping hybrid engines, they won't survive past 2012 in the Big Apple. Reportedly, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has ordered that every last one of NY's taxis operate on hybrid engines by 2012 as a part of an obvious plan to reduce emissions in the state. Once the transition is complete, Bloomberg noted that it would be the "largest, cleanest fleet of taxis anywhere on the planet," but considering that only 375 of the approximate 13,000 licensed taxis are currently in compliance, we'd say they've got a long ways to go. Currently, NYC has approved nine gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles for use as taxis, and while it has yet to be set in stone, officials are purportedly looking into extending the hybrid initiative to encompass garbage trucks and buses.

You'll probably recall Atheros' name from the rundown of Draft 2.0 802.11n gear mentioned just a week ago, but now the firm is getting official with its bundle of refreshed pre-N gear. The new AR9001 family of chipset solutions builds upon the existing XSPAN offerings, and is reportedly compliant with the latest IEEE draft of 802.11n. Primarily aiming for SMB and Enterprise markets, the outfit is doling out a number of AR9001AP access points / router SoCs that "integrate its 802.11n MAC / baseband and 400MHz Wireless Network Processor (WNPU) into a single chip." On the consumer front, the AR9001U sect presents the "world's first dual-band capable 802.11n USB chipset," and also includes the company's first 1x2 MIMO configuration. Yup, it's another 24-inch, 1920 x 1200 LCD monitor with 1000:1 contrast ratio. Not that that's a bad thing. This time, it's Eizo doing the honors with this, their ¥149,800 (about $1,232) FlexScan HD2451W. That "HD" in the name gives a hint to the panel's 2x HDMI inputs for 1080p sourced content. It also packs more traditional HDCP-enabled DVI and D-Sub15 inputs for your computers as well as S-Video and composite inputs for your other AV equipment. Rounding things out are a 450cd/m2 brightness, 16ms response, DVI and D-sub 15 inputs, a 2x USB hub, and the ability to pivot into portrait mode. The only thing that seems to be missing is LED backlighting. Eizo is also offering a business-minded FlexScan S2431W without all the pesky video inputs for ¥114,800 (about $944) or a 20.1-inch, 1680 x 1050 FlexScan S2031W for ¥59,800 (about $492) if your boss is a bit tight with the budget. Unfortunately, we don't have any surefire news that Ugobe's long-awaited Pleo is actually any closer to shipping, but considering that a design has apparently been decided upon for the packaging, we'll take that as a hint. Ugobe's founder Caleb Chung was quoted as saying that the "photos on the box are nearly life size and are designed to convey the wonderful range of expression and organic movement of which Pleo is capable," and continued on in order to mention that the final version of the dino would sport a battery that's both rechargeable and replaceable. Lastly, he threw in yet another phrase of confidence that the device was "getting really close" to actually launching, but considering the false alarms we've seen in the past, we're not banking on anything until this bad boy invades a few homes.

No need to adjust your spectacles, a Korean-based navigation system has indeed cleared the FCC in order to make its way to US soil, but just because the DMB-packed unit got the big thumbs-up doesn't mean that we Americans can expect to pick up signals from halfway across the globe. Regardless of the design changes that could take place if in fact the Zamm TM101 (or TM110, as the FCC so affectionately dubs it) makes it our way, what we do know is that it sports a Hitachi seven-inch 800 x 480 resolution display, "dual-core" ARM9020T processor, T-DMB TV tuning, PIP, 64MB of NAND Flash ROM, 128MB of internal SDRAM, a multimedia player, CF / SD card slots, flipout GPS antenna, and Windows CE 5.0 runnin' the show. Additionally, you'll notice USB connectivity, an AV input, wireless remote, FM tuner, a few built-in games, SiRF Star III receiver, and a headphone output to round things out. Koreans can apparently snap this well-spec'd navigator up rig...

While it's not exactly confirmation of a US-bound 80GB PS3, Sony is providing a glimmer of hope this morning for a beefier domestic release. Satoshi Fukuoka, spokesman for Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. said that they are considering the 80 gigger specifically for the US and "other markets." He also shed light on the decision making process which includes the popularity of online gaming coupled with the availability of broadband connectivity. Fine, but considering the dismal performance of Sony's gaming division last quarter, you'd think they'd also be motivated to slather some preferential treatment on their largest marketplace(s). After all, gamers are nothing if not a fickle bunch and we wouldn't them feeling slighted now would we? Hey Sony, why not drop in a 120GB disk and we'll call it even.
