Merely four months after acquiring Siren, iriver has just unveiled its first DAP under the new brand: the DP250. This pocket-friendly (and admittedly stylish) player will be available in 1GB or 2GB flavors, black or white color schemes, and include an FM tuner / transmitter, a built-in speaker, voice recording functionality, and a minuscule display to keep track of what's spinning. Additionally, you can expect around 18-hours of playtime on a single charge, and those parked in Japan can pick the 1GB edition up next week for ¥9,980 ($86) or double their capacity for ¥5,000 ($43) more.

While Philips didn't have a working model of its new Power4Life modular energy system (including Power2Go and Power2Charge), we did come across this base unit, wall units, and adapters splayed lovingly on a pedestal somewhere deep within the plush company booth. It's not much to see, but supposedly (i.e., according to Philips' press releases) these things are going to change our lives. Take a look at the brief gallery for a taste of things to come.

We'd heard that Everex / FIC was going to be the Stateside OEM for VIA's NanoBook, and it looks like that hunch was right on the money -- two NanoBook variations, the CE260 and 261, have just shown up the FCC's all-seeing database with FIC branding. Nothing revolutionary in the docs -- and no word on what's to come for that expansion bay -- but we've always liked the NanoBook's design, and we're stoked to see it finally hit the US.

Apparently, the firm has "tentatively set a mid-September target for the launch of its music service," but unsurprisingly, no one from Amazon was available to comment on the hunch. 'Course, it's not like we've got long to wait before this gets proven one way or the other, right?

Elaborate viral hoax or next-gen viral ad, that Sony Rolly video has pretty much everyone talking but Sony. We asked Sylvia Shin from Sony Corporate Communications Europe about the Rolly, and while she confirmed she had seen it on Engadget, she of course would say nothing of its actual existence. She did say that rumors of such a device showing up at IFA or being associated with the new Walkman players were not true, so it looks like we'll have to play the waiting game on this one -- we certainly asked to be the first to know if Sony does indeed decide to announce such a product.

Navigon is really speaking our language, and the language of our pocketbook, with the new Navigon 2100 navigation device. Not only is it a real charmer with curvy looks, 3D maps and 3.5-inches of touchscreen, but the device is hitting North America for the neighborly price of $249, and it looks like Europe will be getting a crack at it as well. Navigon of course isn't leaving in all the bells and whistles of the 5100 and 7100 -- like Bluetooth or real time traffic -- but there's at least some text-to-speech for reading you street names, and speed warnings to let you know when you're breaking 55. If you'd like you can even get in on real time traffic info for $99, and toss on some ZAGAT reviews for another $39. The 2100 will be out this fall.

It took us a while to track down Canon's outdoor booth-in-a-tent, but we finally got the sweet, sweet hands-on action we've been waiting for with the company's latest. The Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III is pretty much as beefy as its name implies, and while we're fairly unqualified to form an expert opinion on the unit, we'd have to say it's pretty badass. We're going to say the Nikons we played with yesterday performed a meatier shutter click, but we'll leave the rest of the opinions to those more practiced in the art.

Diamond is no stranger to packin' an awful lot of RAM onto graphics cards, and apparently, the forthcoming VFX 2000 Series Professional Workstation GPU will keep the legacy alive. According to Hot Hardware, Diamond is readying a 2GB (of GDDR4 memory, no less) professional card based on the R600 (now known as the HD 2900 XT), and reportedly, "the card's PCB has been modified from the standard HD 2900 XT reference design to support the workstation-class features inherent to the FireGL line of professional graphics cards." Still, there's no word yet on what frequencies the GPU and RAM will hum along at, but word on the street has this beast launching "in the coming weeks." Maybe there's something to those Apple / Volkswagen rumors we've been hearing after all. According to an interview with one of Jaguar's designers in CAR Magazine, the high-end car-maker has been collaborating with Apple on designs for its control interfaces in at least one upcoming vehicle, called the XF. Says designer Ian Callum, "We have been working with Apple on control interfaces," which really doesn't leave much to the imagination... unless Ian Callum is a pathological liar -- which we very much doubt. Apparently, the boys in Cupertino helped design a feature called the JaguarDrive Selector, which replaces the gearstick with a circular, metallic wheel which rises when you turn the car on. The device is twisted to switch between P, R, N and D, and apparently its action is "pleasant and seamless" -- though we understand that the battery dies after a year of use, and has to be sent back to Jaguar for replacement.
